Recruitment for Committee Vacancy
Dear Physician Assistants:
The Maryland Board of Physicians (the Board) is looking to fill two physician assistant positions on the Physician Assistant Advisory Committee (the PAAC). Successful candidates must:
Hold an active, unencumbered Maryland license;
Be currently practicing, either in a hospital or in a non-hospital setting;
Be nominated by either the Maryland Academy of Physician Assistants (MAPA) or one of the accredited physician assistant programs in Maryland; and
Be a Maryland resident.
The PAAC consists of three licensed physician assistants, three licensed physicians (one of whom specializes in general surgery or a surgical subspecialty, one of whom specializes in internal medicine, family practice, or a similar primary care specialty, and at least two of whom previously or currently serves as a patient care team physician under a collaboration agreement with a physician assistant), and one consumer member.
The role of the PAAC is to advise the Board on matters related to the practice of physician assistants. The duties of the PAAC are found in Health Occupations Article §15-205 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
Meetings are held virtually on the first Wednesday of every month, starting at 4:00 p.m. However, there may be occasions when meetings are held at the Board’s offices in the Metro Executive Building, located at 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore. Attendance is essential.
Committee members serve staggered three-year terms. Members may be appointed for a second term; however, no individual may serve more than two consecutive three-year terms.
A candidate appointed to the PAAC may not serve concurrently as a member of the Advisory Committee and as an elected officer in their professional association. (Health Occupations Article §1-222(b), Annotated Code of Maryland.)
Candidates will also be required to complete and submit a Biographical Information Form, an Appointee Exemption Disclosure Form, and a Candidate Questionnaire, which will be provided later in the application process.
If you are interested in serving on the Physician Assistant Advisory Committee, please have your nominator (MAPA or the Maryland physician assistant accredited program) submit your curriculum vitae to Margaret Ellis Jury, Lead Allied Health Analyst, at margaret.jury@maryland.gov by the close of business on February 27, 2026.
