Persistence Leads to Success

The MdAPA legislative team had a big year.  Our current lobbyist Robyn Elliot, has been masterful at getting us to the finish line of a major legislative advancement for PAs in the Maryland General Assembly.  It has taken many years and hard work, which underscores the dedication of the MdAPA legislative committee, board of directors, active members, community stakeholders, and other volunteers showing up or participating to demonstrate their support.  As we share in gratitude for this movement, it is important to recognize the progress and growth attained over the time-span of the organization.  We would like to thank everyone for dedicating their time, which is one of the most valuable resources needed to see this endeavor succeed! 

A New Era for Maryland PAs 

I am thrilled to witness and announce the successful passing of SB 0167/HB in the Maryland General Assembly effectively modernizing PA practice. We proudly observed the signing of the bill into law by Governor Moore in May, 2024.  It has been MdAPA’s legislative priority for the last several years to synchronize existing legal frameworks to reflect current practice more accurately.  We all know we are part of the solution to the critical healthcare workforce shortage in our state, and now we have moved closer to the legal standing to provide more access to care without unnecessary administrative burdens imposed by antiquated practice laws.
