ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

The organizational structure and leadership of the Maryland Academy of PAs (MdAPA) relies on our dedicated board members to fulfill the roles integral to our organization. MdAPA's Board of Directors (BOD) is comprised of a six-member executive board, four directors at large, three regional directors, and one student representative. 

The BOD ensures the routine functioning of MdAPA by establishing its policies and procedures,  operational goals and objectives, and the overall strategic planning.  All members of the BOD are voting members of MdAPA, and must have active memberships with our organization and the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA)

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

MdAPA leadership is dependent on the skills and experience of our members who volunteer to hold these positions. Listed below are the core responsibilities and attendance requirements for our Board of Directors.

EXECUTIVE BOARD

The Executive Board is comprised of six officers: President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  The current president shall serve as Chair for the Board of Directors, based on the parliamentary authority adopted by MdAPA. 

In addition to the core responsibilities listed in the drop down below, all executive board members must meet committee and attendance requirements outlined in our bylaws.

ATTENDENCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

                                • Miss no more than one BOD meeting
                                • Attend and facilitate all committee meetings 
                                • Attend annual Strategic Planning meeting 
                                • Additional attendance requirements for President are listed in our bylaws*


DIRECTORS AT LARGE

Directors at Large are elected officials who serve on MdAPA's Board of Directors, and are voting officials.  Directors at Large are committee chairs, and lead our key, standing committees: 

                                      • Legislative Affairs
                                      • Membership Affairs
                                      • Public Affairs
                                      • Continuing Medical Education (CME)

As committee chairs, Directors at large are responsible for the development and implementation of organizational plans and budgets for their respective committee. In addition, committee chairs lead, provide oversight, and recruit volunteers for their respective committees. The committees represented by our Directors at Large are subject to change, and determined by the current executive board. 

ATTENDENCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

                                  • Miss no more than one BOD meeting
                                  • Attend and facilitate all committee meetings 
                                  • Attend annual Strategic Planning meeting 


REGIONAL DIRECTORS 

Regional directors maintain open communication between general MdAPA members within their region, and MdAPA's BOD. Through their efforts, MdAPA is able to garner a closer relationship with its membership throughout the state of Maryland and advocate for all. 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR EACH REGIONAL DIRECTOR:

                            • Coordinate outreach events for assigned region
                            • Host at least 1 regional event 
                            • Liaison for MdAPA and PAs in assigned region 
                            • Communicate state level issues affecting the PA profession with local PA community 
                            • Communicate local issues affecting PA practice with MdAPA 
                            • Recruit and mentor new leaders 
                            • Submit a summary report of all activities for each BOD meeting 
                            • Keep all confidences regarding Board of Directors procedures and meetings

TERM LENGTH: 2 YEARS

ATTENDENCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

                                • Miss no more than 25% of BOD meetings
                                • Attend and facilitate respective regional meetings
